diaton – tonometry without limitations!

Independent clinical trials of diaton tonometer have been carried out in Spain on the basis of Balearic Institute of Ophthalmology and Madrid Complutense University.


The comparative clinical trial of diaton tonometer with other corneal tonometers in patients before and after laser In Situ Keratomileusis is completed in Spain with positive results.

The accuracy of IOP measurement result is a critical factor in diagnostics of glaucoma and its further control. The aim of the present study is to evaluate the IOP before and after myopic LASIK surgery taking into account the implication that corneal thickness has on the measurement.

            Changes after LASIK vision correction influence the result of post-operative IOP measurement result with corneal tonometers. During applanation Goldmann tonometry it is necessary to consider the value of central cornea thickness: while measuring IOP on thick corneas the IOP result can be overestimated, while measuring IOP on thin corneas IOP results can be underestimated.  The air–pulse method of tonometry is also influenced by corneal thickness changes.

diaton tonometer measures IOP through the eyelid in the sclera area that’s why after LASIK changes do not influence the IOP measuring result. So, IOP values before and after LASIK surgery remain the same that is a rather important for medical care of patients.
